TW-198 is a brass weighing scale that, instead of measuring mass, measures the comparative moral weight of two items placed on its pans. The scale does not adjudicate ethical systems — it simply tips. Consistently and reproducibly. Tests placing two choices against each other have produced results that independent ethicists reviewing blind have agreed with at a rate of 94%. The scale has been used in 6 Director-level decisions. The Director has not disclosed which decisions or whether they followed the scale's indication.

TW-198 was donated to M.A.L.I.C.E anonymously with a typed note reading: 'You'll need this more than I do. Try not to rely on it too much.'
