Dead Reckoning
TW-157 is monitored daily. The spiral mapping project is ongoing. Personnel are aware of the coordinate projection. The Director has been briefed. No action has been prescribed beyond continued monitoring.
TW-157 is a compass that has been in continual use since approximately 1880 and points not toward magnetic north but toward a point that moves. The point's trajectory, mapped across 140 years of known usage records, describes a slowly tightening spiral. At current rate, the spiral's centre — the point the compass will eventually point directly at and cease to move — will be reached in approximately 8 years. The centre coordinates fall within M.A.L.I.C.E's facility grounds.
TW-157 was recovered from a maritime antiques auction and identified by an analyst who noticed the deviation from magnetic north. Archival research traced the compass's usage history through three generations of one family of navigators.
No incident reports on file.
