The Mirror Season
TW-131 is tracked calendrically. In the week prior to each expected onset, M.A.L.I.C.E issues cover-story weather advisories and deploys personnel to remove reflective surfaces from public spaces. Mirrors in private residences cannot be addressed at scale.
TW-131 is a temporal anomaly recurring every 4 years for a period of 11 days in which reflective surfaces in a defined rural county begin showing an alternate season — summer reflections in December, snow in August. The effect is limited to reflected images and does not affect temperature or environment. Individuals who stare into a TW-131 reflection for more than 90 seconds report a profound sense of displacement and difficulty confirming which season is real.
TW-131 was identified after a county-wide pattern of residents autonomously covering mirrors was noted by social services. Investigation confirmed the phenomenon had been occurring since at least the 1940s.
