The Occupied Canvas

Contained
Classification: Class-III
Containment Procedures

TW-093 is contained in Research Room 7, equipped with continuous photographic monitoring. All paintings are documented in full before they fade. Art historians are engaged to assess and contextualise the works. The canvas is not to be painted on by personnel.

Description

TW-093 is a blank canvas, 120cm x 90cm, oil-primed, that has never been painted on — by any human. It has, however, painted itself. Paintings appear on TW-093 at a rate of approximately one per fortnight. They are fully realised works, executed in styles spanning multiple periods and traditions. No artist has been linked to any of the works. The paintings fade within 10 days of appearing and are replaced. The paintings have been photographed and three have been independently assessed as masterworks.

Discovery Log

TW-093 was acquired from an artist's studio. The artist reported that the canvas had appeared in their studio with the first painting already present. They had not purchased it and had no explanation for its presence.
