The Replacement

TW-074 cannot be reliably prevented or contained. M.A.L.I.C.E maintains a monitoring protocol for registered individuals in high-risk categories. Personnel who suspect they or a colleague may be undergoing a TW-074 replacement are to report immediately. No high-clearance decisions are to be made by individuals under observation for TW-074.

TW-074 is a phenomenon in which individuals are temporarily replaced by a version of themselves with subtly different memories, opinions, and mannerisms. The replacement lasts between 6 hours and 3 days. The replacement individual is not aware of the discrepancy. They return to their normal state abruptly and retain no memory of the replacement period. 12 confirmed cases exist. In three cases, the replacement individual made significant decisions — career changes, relationship endings, a property purchase — that the original individual says they would not have made.

TW-074 was identified when a M.A.L.I.C.E researcher submitted a report that contradicted her known research position and was written in a distinct voice. When queried, she had no memory of writing it.
